DH-1927 - PUMP FOUNTAIN & DH-1928 - BARREL FOUNTAIN BASE  MATERIALS NEEDED:  Greenware, Cleaning Tools, Various Brushes, Dish Drainer, Small Sponge, Submersible Water Pump, Clear Plastic 1/2" Tubing, Matte Spray Sealer. DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS:  DH-08 Black, DH-42 Dark Gray, DH-19 Light Gray, DH-12 Leather Brown, SP-02 Mask-It, CG-307 Basic Black Classic Glaze.

  • Step 1:  While the two greenware pump pieces are in the leather hard stage, slip attach them together and allow to dry.  Clean as usual.  (It is best to fire the pump on top of the barrel base to ensure proper fit and elimination of stilt marks.)
  • Step 2:  Glaze Technique:  It is very helpful to have a dish drainer and a small sponge on hand.  Dampen sponge and insert into bottom opening of pump.  Thin some Black Glaze to rolling consistency and pour into spout, filing it at least half full.  Turn pump slowly to allow good coverage and pour out of spout back into container.  Place pump upside down to drain and remove sponge.  Following directions on glaze label, apply 2-3 coats of Black Glaze to the outside of the pump and to the inside (smooth) area of the barrel base.  Allow to dry thoroughly then fire to Cone 06.
  • Step 3:  Basecoat the barrel base (and the pump if you have chosen not to glaze it) with Black.
  • Step 4:  Wet-brush wood grain areas with Dark Gray, followed by Light Gray to highlight growth rings.
  • Step 5:  Paint "metal" band with Leather Brown.  Shade above and below the band with Black.
  • Step 6:  Use a damp sponge to remove any unwanted paint marks from glazed areas.
  • Step 7:  Apply Mask-It to glazed area and allow to dry before spraying with Matte Spray Sealer.
  • Step 8:  Remove Mask-It.
  • Submersible water pump (Rena Flow 400 SA-Pd, Model #P400A) is available through Doc Holliday Ceramic Products.  Tubing for pump is 1/2" diameter and can be purchased at your local pet, hardware or department stores.
