recommended that the inside of the piece be Clear glazed to increase durability outside. DH1956 - STURGEON POINT LIGHTHOUSE MATERIALS NEEDED: Greenware, various brushes, SP08-Matte Spray, light kit. - Step 1:
While greenware is in leather hard stage, cut out the five vertical sections (in between roof of lighthouse and brick) and a small hole in the base (marked for you) for a light. Allow greenware to
dry, then clean and fire as usual.
- Step 2:
Basecoat both lighthouses and house with two coats of White (including chimney).
- Step 3:
Basecoat entire base, shingled roofs, catwalk, all window panes, surface of steps and section in between roof of lighthouse and brick with Black.
- Step 4:
Drybrush shingled roofs with Dark Gray. Paint sides and bottom edge of steps Light Gray.
- Step 5:
Using Christmas Red, paint roof of lighthouse, catwalk railing, lighthouse door (and the year 1869 above it), window sills, shutters and window frames.
- Step 6:
Still using Christmas Red, outline roof edge on the house, but not on the side that fits against the lighthouse or on the wood addition (where door and diamond shaped window are). Outline along roof
above the 1869 door side only.
- Step 7:
Paint top of chimney and a thin line below the top with Black.
- Step 8:
Mix Leather Brown with Christmas Red and "dot" across the 1869 door. There is no visible door knob or handle - only a padlock.
- Step 9:
Door on wood addition: outline door frame with Light Gray to give some definition. Leave less White showing at the top than at the bottom. Paint door "glass" Black with
Christmas Red trim and divide into four sections. Place a Black dot for door knob at middle of second section - counting panes from the bottom up.
- Step 10:
Shade lighthouse roof with Black.
- Step 11
: Base should already be basecoated Black. Water - Basecoat Navy Blue, highlight with Navy and White mix, use White on waves. Grass - wetbrush Grass Green, highlight with Grass and Mustard
mix. Ground - Wetbrush Real Brown then wetbrush with Medium Brown then highlight with Soft Brown.
- Step 12:
Spray pieces with Matte Spray Sealer. Attach light kit.

- Step 2:
Wetbrush all of base, except water with Real Brown. Add Medium Brown to same brush and wetbrush sand area and top of base again. Highlight top of base with Beige. Wetbrush sand areas
lightly using Sand.
- Step 3:
Wetbrush over rock with Light Gray and then apply washes of Toast and Country Blue. Highlight rocks with Cream. Wetbrush water with Midnight Blue. Add increasing amounts of White to same
brush and highlight water. Shade between waves using Mystic Purple. Shade base with Black. Spray base and lighthouse with Matte Spray Sealer.

- Step 3:
Wet-brush roof of small house Dark Gray. Wet-brush all trees and shrubs Grass Green. Add Mustard to same brush and highlight.
- Step 4:
Wet-brush base with Real Brown. Add Medium Brown to same brush and wet-brush Sand around base. Highlight again with Sand. Wet-brush Grass area with Grass Green, highlight grass with a
little Toast and then Mustard. Shade lighthouse and base with Real Brown by corner loading a 1/2"" Shader Brush. Spray with Matte Spray Sealer.
DH1976 - NEW AND OLD CAPE HENRY

- Step 1:
While greenware is in leather hard stage, cut out areas on top of lighthouses (if desired) and holes in base for light kits. Allow greenware to dry, then clean and fire as usual.
- Step 2:
Basecoat entire base and Old Cape Henry (the shorter one with the dome top) with Black.
- Step 3:
Wetbrush from the base of Old Henry up to the catwalk with Real Brown. Wetbrush the brick area with Terra Cotta.
- Step 4:
Touch up catwalk and paint door and windows Black. Wetbrush dome with Dark Gray.
- Step 5:
Basecoat New Cape Henry and small house with two coats of White. Wetbrush roof of small house with Real Brown followed by Terra Cotta. Paint door on small house Terra Cotta.
- Step 6:
Refer to photo of New Cape Henry for placement of black sections. Arched doorway remains White, top of lighthouse is Black. Base is wetbrushed with Dark Gray followed lightly by Light Gray.
- Step 7:
Water is basecoated Navy Blue then highlighted with Navy and White mix. Use White on waves. Wetbrush Real Brown over the rest of the base. Grass/shrub/tree areas are wet brushed with
Grass Green and highlighted with a Grass Green and Mustard mix. Ground areas are wetbrushed with Medium Brown then highlighted with Soft Brown. Shade along tree line with Real Brown. Spray piece with Matte
Spray Sealer.

Basecoat entire lighthouse and base with Black. Wetbrush lighthouse (except for very top railing around middle) with Leather Brown. Add Terra Cotta to same brush and wetbrush again. Top
of house and railing remain Black. Paint inside of windows with Dark Gray and trim windows Black. Shade around each circle of lighthouse with Black.

Wetbrush base with Midnight Blue. Add increasing amounts of White to same brush and highlight water. Wetbrush bubbles of water White. Shade water White. Shade water randomly with Mystic
Purple and then Midnight Blue. Spray with Matte Spray Sealer.

- Step 1:
Airbrush sky and plain areas of tankard and lid with Flaxon Yellow. Add Mustard to airbrush mixture and airbrush rims and around gold bands. Add Toast to airbrush mixture and darken above areas.
- Step 2:
Paint the sky with washes of Daffodil, Mustard, True Orange, Leather Brown, Country Blue, and Midnight Blue.
- Step 3:
Paint ship's sails and background of sign Cream. Shade edges lightly with a Toast wash. Paint lighthouse tower White and Black. Paint windows Daffodil.
- Step 4:
Basecoat all remaining areas Black.
- Step 5:
Wetbrush water with Midnight Blue. Gradually lighten with White and highlight water and paint waves.
- Step 6:
Wetbrush ground, ship's, lighthouse trim and steps and handle Real Brown. Add Toast to same brush and wetbrush highlights on these areas. Add Sand to same brush and lighten ground, steps and
ship's edges.
- Step 7:
Wetbrush bricks Christmas Red. Wetbrush roof of building Dark Gray. Shade as necessary with a Black wash.
- Step 8:
Apply Mask-It to gold bands. Spray with Matte Spray Sealer. Remove Mask-It. Attach tankard lid to bottom with kit.

- Step 1:
Airbrush background and smooth areas of tankard with Cream slightly darkened with Fog. Gradually add Blue Suede to airbrush mixture to darken color and airbrush edges of lid and bottom. Add
Teal to airbrush mixture and airbrush darker area on bottom and rim of lid. Clean off fired-gold areas with cloth dampened with water.
- Step 2:
Clouds - rough in clouds with a wash of Cream. Tint them with washes of Fog. Blue Suede and Teal. Highlight them with White.
- Step 3:
Paint lighthouse Flaxon Yellow with Black roofs and windows with White trim. Shade the Flaxon Yellow areas with a wash of Mustard.
- Step 4:
Paint eagles head, tail and feet White. Apply a wash of Mustard on beak, feet and eye. Shade beak and around eye with a Toast wash.
- Step 5:
Basecoat all remaining areas Black.
- Step 6:
Wetbrush the rocks with Light Gray. Shade and tint them with washes of Toast, Leather Brown, Blue Suede and Black.
- Step 7:
Wetbrush trees, handle and eagle with Real Brown. Add Toast to your brush and lightly wetbrush eagle. Tint outer sections of eagles' wings with a wash of Leather Brown. Shade wing
sections and edges of wings with Black. With a liner and Black, carefully detail his eyes ;and beak and line between larger features.
- Step 8:
With a small brush accent small tree branches with Toast. Paint leaves Lexington Green. Highlight with Leaf Green. Wetbrush trees with Lexington Green. With color still in your
brush, add Blue Suede and wetbrush highlights on trees. Shade around trees with a Black wash. Wetbrush highlights on handle with Toast and Blue Suede.
- Step 9:
Line around fired-gold bands with Premier Gold.
- Step 10:
Apply Mask-It on fired-gold. Let dry. Spray with Matte Spray Sealer. Remove Mask-It.
- Step 11:
Attach tankard kit.
DH2250 & 2251 - MERMAID BIRD BATH AND LARGE SHELL

- Step 1: Basecoat - Mix Black and Lexington Green (1:2).
- Step 2:
Sponge 3 colors at a time, (do not mix or wipe), Shadow Green, Lexington Green, Grass Green. Sponge must be wet.
- Step 3:
Sponge 3 colors at a time, (do not mix, wipe, or clean the sponge), Teal, Turquoise, Christmas Green. Do not cover all the colors of step 2.
- Step 4:
Sponge 3 colors at a time, (do not mix, wipe, or clean the sponge), Leaf Green, Blue Suede, Willow Green.
- Step 5:
Squeeze the wet sponge over the piece. Let thin paint leftovers flow.
- Step 6:
Let the piece dry well.
- Step 7:
Apply one coat of 1/4 Blue Suede and 3/4 Turquoise. Working quickly before it dries, wipe of excess color with a damp sponge or paper towel.
- Step 8:
Put on Fingertip Green Mist. Let the color fade away on the edges of each spot.
- Step 9:
Highlight with Fingertip Gold. Apply Matte Spray Sealer.
- Shell:
Using large fan brush "dab" thinned Rose, English Grey, Black, Aqua, and Hunter Green on bowl. Let dry, then float "veins" in with Black. Let dry. Apply two coats of
Transparent Glaze. Fire to cone 05.
DH1452 - SEA TURTLE MATERIALS NEEDED: Greenware, various brushes, airbrush, SP08-Matte Spray. DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS:

- Step 1:
Clean greenware and fire to cone 03.
- Step 2:
Airbrush turtle and base Flaxon Yellow. Airbrush shell and turtle Lexington Green, and over top that, Grass Green.
- Step 3:
Airbrush Toast on turtle shell and turtle to highlight areas. Airbrush Black to shade areas on shell.
- Step 4:
Antique turtle Black.
- Step 5:
Drybrush skin on turtle Flaxon Yellow. Outline crevices and lines on turtle's feet with Flaxon Yellow.
- Step 6:
Paint eyes with Mustard and pupils Black.
- Step 7:
Paint base and coral same as the sea lion base. Spray with Matte Spray Sealer.

- Step 1:
Clean greenware with cleaning tools.
- Step 2:
Use airgun and basecoat sea lion with DG219 Flesh. You need to mix 1/2 color and 1/2 water to thin. If your airgun clogs with paint, you need to add more water.
- Step 3:
Airbrush DG215 Cocoa Brown (1/2 color, 1/2 water) to sea lion leaving highlighted areas sprayed lightly. Spray heavy on shaded areas.
- Step 4:
Use DG218 Black to shade dark areas. Use DG219 to paint eys and DG218 for pupils. Fire to cone 03.
- Step 5:
Apply 3 coats of CG300 Clear Glaze to sea lion sea shells. Fire at cone 05.
- Step 6:
Apply Mother of Pearl on shells and fire to cone 018.
- Step 7:
Basecoat base with Sand. Antique with True Brown. Use washes of Country Blue, Toast and Leather Brown on sand and rock.
- Step 8:
Drybrush Cream over washes. Shade sand and rock with Toast.
- Step 9:
Drybrush coral with Sand and add Cream to brush and drybrush coral. Shade coral with True Orange.
- Step 10:
Drybrush small sea shells with Sky Blue and Petal Pink. Spray with Matte Spray
