*** To make a piece "weatherproof" : Paint using a 50/50 mix of Weather-It mixed into acrylics and
translucent. It is recommended that the inside of the piece be Clear glazed to increase durability outside. DH 2274 - LARGE GARDEN TOAD
MATERIALS AND DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS NEEDED: DH08-Black,
DH29-White, DH38-Grass Green, DH10-Mustard, DH25-Toast, DH09- Real Brown, DH12-Leather Brown, DH01-Daffodil, DH03-True Orange, DH22-Christmas Red, SP03-Gloss It, SP08-Matte Spray Sealer, SP13-Weather It (optional)
- STEP 1:
Basecoat toad, except eyes, mouth and tongue with Black.
- STEP 2:
Wetbrush toad with Real Brown. Wetbrush again with Grass Green. With color still in your brush, add Mustard and wetbrush highlights on toad's body. Add more Mustard to your brush and
wetbrush toad's chest.
- STEP 3:
Wetbrush spots with Toast. With same brush add True Orange and wetbrush spots again. With same brush, add True Orange and wetbrush spots again. With same brush add Daffodil and wetbrush
highlights on spots.
- STEP 4:
Basecoat eyes Daffodil (2 coats). Shade inside edges of eyes with a wash of True Orange. Paint pupils Black and outline eyes with Black. Paint a White highlight in each eye.
- STEP 5:
Basecoat mouth and tongue with Leather Brown. Repeat with Christmas Red. Lighten edges of mouth with a wash of True Orange. Add a small amount of Black to Christmas Red to darken
color. Shade inside mouth with this color.
- STEP 6:
Shade deepest crevices of Toad with a Black wash.
- STEP 7:
Spray with Matte Spray Sealer.
- STEP 8:
Apply 2 coats Gloss-It to eyes and tongue.
DH2269 - RAM PLANTER
MATERIALS AND DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS NEEDED: SP08-Matte Spray, AT01-Black Translucent, SP13-Weather-It, DH08-Black, DH37-Cream, DH33-Deep Beige,
DH21-Sand, DH25-Toast, DH12-Leather Brown, DH09-Real Brown
- STEP 1:
Basecoat rams Leather Brown, remaining areas Deep Beige.
- STEP 2:
Shade and tint the wood and ram with washes of Toast, Real Brown, Leather Brown and Black.
- STEP 3:
Highlight the piece by wetbrushing with Toast, lightened with Sand, then Cream.
- STEP 4:
Antique entire piece with Black translucent. Wipe off excess stain to highlight, with a cloth dampened with solvent.
- STEP 5:
Spray with Matte Spray sealer (if not using Weather-It).
DH2285 - GARDEN FOUNTAIN
MATERIALS AND DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS NEEDED: A74-Fountain Pump, SP13-Weather-It, CG300-Classic Glaze, FT01-Fingertip Silver, DH08-Black,
DH20-Sky Blue, DH13-Petal Pink, DH37-Cream, DH30-Country Blue, DH26-Lexington Green, DH01-Daffodil, DH09-Real Brown, DH25-Toast
- STEP 1:
Apply two coats of Classic Glaze to inside of fountain and fire to cone 06.
- STEP 2:
Dip sponge into Sky Blue, Petal Pink and Cream. Sponge on fountain and base. Use Country Blue and sponge fountain and base in random areas.
- STEP 3:
Paint leaves, berries, chipmunk and spade Black.
- STEP 4:
Wetbrush leaves with Lexington Green highlight with Daffodil. Wetbrush chipmunk Real Brown, Toast, shade with Real Brown. Paint face, belly and stripes on back White. Line strips with
Black. Paint eyes Black.
- STEP 5:
Wetbrush spade's handle with Real Brown, and Toast, shade with Real Brown. Put on Fingertip Silver on silver part of spade.
- STEP 6:
Wetbrush berries with True Red.
- STEP 7:
Shade leaves, berries, chipmunk and spade with Black.
- STEP 8:
Apply Weather-It to fountain and base.
DH2283 - FROG FOUNTAIN
MATERIALS AND DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS NEEDED: A74-Fountain Pump, CG300-Clear Glaze, SP13- Weather-It, sponge, DH24-Terra Cotta, DH23-Bone,
DH33-Deep Beige, DH08-Black, DH26-Lexington Green, DH31-Leaf Green, DH38-Grass Green, DH01-Daffodil, DH32-Christmas Green, DH27-Midnight Blue, DH39-Bright Blue, DH04-True Red
- STEP 1:
Apply two coats of Clear Glaze or any Classic Glaze on inside of fountain. Fire to cone 06.
- STEP 2:
Using a sponge dip into Terra Cotta and Bone and sponge on piece. Dip sponge in Deep Beige and apply randomly all over piece. Use same colors with base.
- STEP 3:
Paint leaves and frogs Black.
- STEP 4:
Wetbrush leaves Lexington Green and highlight with Grass Green and use Daffodil to highlight again.
- STEP 5:
Wetbrush lily pads Christmas Green and highlight with Leaf Green and then Daffodil.
- STEP 6:
Wetbrush frog with Leaf Green and highlight with Daffodil and shade with Midnight Blue. Wetbrush frog True Red and legs with Bright Blue. Paint Black dots on frogs. Shade frogs and leaves with
Black.
- STEP 7:
Apply Weather-It on fountain and base.
DH2270 - DRIFTWOOD EAGLE PLANTER
MATERIALS AND DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS NEEDED: CG307-Black Classic Glaze, SP08-Matte Spray, DH08-Black, DH12-Leather Brown, DH25-Toast,
DH30-Country Blue, DH21-Sand, DH37-Cream, DH29-White, DH10-Mustard, AT01-Black Translucent
- STEP 1:
Apply two coats of Black Classic Glaze to inside of piece and fire to cone 06.
- STEP 2:
Basecoat piece Black.
- STEP 3:
Wetbrush Leather Brown, Toast, Country Blue, and Sand on wood. Highlight raised areas with Cream.
- STEP 4:
Apply Leather Brown, and Black washes in the shaded areas.
- STEP 5:
Wetbrush eagle with Leather Brown, highlight with Toast. Wetbrush White on eagles tail and head. Paint beak with Mustard. Shade eagle with Black and paint eyes Black.
- STEP 6:
Antique entire piece with Black Antiquing Translucent and wipe off with a soft cloth.
- STEP 7:
Spray with Matte Spray.
DH2273 - LARGE GARDEN FAIRY
MATERIALS AND DOC HOLLIDAY COLORS NEEDED: SP13-Weather-It, CG300-Clear Glaze, DH08-Black, DH43-Teal, DH46-Fog, DH44-Blue Suede,
DH40-Turquoise, AT01-Black Antiquing Translucent, FT03-Fingertip Green Mist
- STEP 1:
To weatherproof piece glaze inside and fire to cone 05.
- STEP 2:
Basecoat with Black.
- STEP 3:
Double load brush with Teal and Fog and pounce on piece. Using same brush double load brush using Blue Suede and Fog. Pounce in random areas. On wings pounce small amounts of Turquoise.
- STEP 4:
Antique piece with Black Translucent and wipe off with a soft cloth.
- STEP 5:
Apply Fingertip Green Mist on leaves and wings.
- STEP 6:
Apply Weather-It all over piece.
DH2284 - FOREST FOUNTAIN MATERIALS NEEDED:
3/4" brush, DH08-Black, DH45-Shadow Green, DH43-Teal, DH40-Turquoise, AT01-Black Antiquing Translucent, FT03-Fingertip Green Mist, FT04-Fingertip
Burnished Gold, FT05-Fingertip Copper, SP12-Weather-It, CG300-Clear Glaze
- STEP 1:
Fill fountain top with Clear Glaze and drain off excess. Allow glaze to dry thoroughly before firing piece. (Option 2: For non-firing water proofing, fill piece with Weather-It and drain
off excess. Allow piece to dry one week before using.)
- STEP 2:
Basecoat with a 50/50 mix of Black and Weather-It.
- STEP 3:
Using a 3/4" brush, pounce Shadow Green, Turquoise, and Teal all over the piece.
- STEP 4:
Antique entire piece with Black Antiquing and wipe off with a soft cloth.
- STEP 5:
Use finger rubs of Burnished Gold, Green Mist, and Copper to highlight leaves and salamander.
- STEP 6:
Apply two thin coats of Weather-It over entire piece.
