FLAGS - DH2400 & DH2404
MATERIALS NEEDED: Bisque, Brushes (B6-½" shader, B1-liner, B3-round, B10-round, B7-3/4" shader), AT01 Black Translucent, SP08 Matte Spray
Sealer, SP05 Doc's GlueCOLORS NEEDED: DH08 Black, DH29 White, DH04 True Red, DH36 Navy Blue, DH19 Light Grey, DH25 Toast, DH12 Leather Brown, DH09 Real Brown, DH18 Medium Brown, DH30 Country Blue, DH49
Premier Gold, DH38 Grass Green, DH10 Mustard, DH16 Flaxon Yellow, DH37 Cream
- STEP 1:
Basecoat two coats White on alternate stripes.
- STEP 2:
Basecoat two coats True Red on remaining stripes.
- STEP 3:
Paint the stars White. Carefully paint around the stars with Navy Blue (may require two coats).
- STEP 4:
Paint lettering, if any, with Black.
- STEP 5:
Basecoat pole (on standing flag) and rocks with Black. Wetbrush the rocks with Light Grey. Tint and shade the rocks with washes of Toast, Leather Brown, Country Blue and Black. Lightly
wetbrush edges of rocks with Cream. Paint top of flagpole with Premier Gold.
- STEP 6:
Antique only the striped section of the flag with Black translucent. Wipe away excess stain with cloth dampened with solvent.
- STEP 7:
Paint edges of USA Country Flag with Navy Blue.
EAGLES - DH2401 & DH2405
Basecoat entire piece Black.
STEP 2: Wetbrush all but head and tail with Real Brown. Wetbrush again, lightly, with Medium Brown.
STEP 3: Wetbrush highlights on eagle's body and wings lightly with Toast. Wetbrush edges of each wing section lightly with Leather Brown.
STEP 4: Wetburh beak and feet with Mustard; highlight lightly with Flaxon Yellow. Tint near base of beak and feet with a Toast wash.
STEP 5: Paint eyes Mustard with a Black pupil and outline.
STEP 6: Wetbrush head and tail with White.
STEP 7: Apply a heavy Black wash on edges of wings. Shade between wing sections with a Black wash. Line between feathers with Black.
FREEDOM PLAQUE - DH2403
Basecoat entire piece Black.
STEP 2: Wetbrush trees with Real Brown. Wetbrush again with Grass Green. With color still in your brush, add Mustard and wetbrush highlights on trees. With color still in your brush, add Toast
and lightly tint some areas of the trees.
STEP 3: Wetbrush rock with Light Grey. Shade and tint the rocks with washes of Toast, Leather Brown, Country Blue, and Black. Lightly wetbrush the rock with Cream to highlight.
STEP 4:Spray all pieces with Matte Spray Sealer. Attach eagles to either rock or flag using Doc's Glue.
FIREMEN RAISING THE FLAG - DH2399
MATERIALS NEEDED: Greenware, brushes, FT02 Fingertip Gold, AT01 Black Antiquing Translucent, soft cloth, SP08 Matte Spray.
COLORS NEEDED: DH04 True Red, DH08 Black, DH29 White, DH36 Navy Blue, DH55 Roughcut Bronze
- STEP 1:
Clean greenware carefully and fire to cone 03.
- STEP 2:
Paint flag with Navy Blue, True Red, and White. Outline each side of strip with Black.
- STEP 3:
Basecoat rest of the piece with Roughcut Bronze. Antique the entire piece with Black Antiquing and wipe back with soft cloth. Use solvent on flag to bring the colors out.
- STEP 4:
Spray with a Matte Spray sealer and use Fingertip Gold to highlight bronze areas. Corner load a 1/2" shader brush with Black and shade all the bronze areas.
PATRIOTIC HORSE - DH1077 MATERIALS AND COLORS NEEDED:
Greenware, Liquid Bright Gold, CG300 Clear Glaze, Solvent, SP02 Mask-It, SP08 Matte Spray, AT01 Black Antiquing Translucent, DH04 True Red, DH08
Black, DH09 Real Brown, DH10 Mustard, DH15 Mystic Purple, DH18 Medium Brown, DH19 Light Grey, DH29 White, DH36 Navy Blue, DH43 Teal
- STEP 1:
Clean greenware. Fire to cone 03.
- STEP 2:
Apply two coats Clear Glaze to areas to be fired-on Gold. (Refer to photo). Fire to cone 05.
- STEP 3:
Apply Liquid Bright Gold to glazed areas. Fire to cone 018.
- STEP 4:
Basecoat horses skin, mane and tail with White.
- STEP 5:
Paint hooves Light Grey. Paint straps of harness and bridle Teal and Mystic Purple. (Refer to photo for placement of colors.) Paint True Red and White stripes on flag. Paint the
star background Navy Blue. Paint the saddle Real Brown. Paint the eagles Black.
- STEP 6:
Antique with Black Translucent. Wipe off with a soft cloth dampened with solvent. Leave quite a bit of Black in the recesses of the mane and tail.
- STEP 7:
Wetbrush the mane and tail with White using several coats. Wetbrush the eagles with Real Brown. Highlight by wetbrushing lightly with Medium Brown. Wetbrush the head, wing tips, tail
tips, and lower legs with White. Paint the beak Mustard. Paint the eye and toenails Black.
- STEP 8:
Paint the iris of the eyes Medium Brown. Paint Black pupils with a White highlight.
- STEP 9:
Thin some Black slightly with water to make a heavy wash. Use a liner brush and carefully outline with Black around the harness and bridle straps. Keep the lines very thin. Also
line between flag stripes, around fired on Gold and between rows of feathers and around beak of eagle. Paint White stars on flag.
- STEP 10:
Apply coats of Mask-it to all fired on Gold areas. Let dry until transparent.
- STEP 11:
Spray with Matte Spray sealer. Remove Mask-it.
FIREMEN WITH CHILD - DH2398

Fingertip Copper, SP08 Matte Spray
- STEP 1:
Basecoat entire piece with Roughtcut Bronze.
- STEP 2:
Antique entire piece with Black Translucent. Work on a small area at a time so translucent does not dry out before you wipe the excess away. Let dry.
- STEP 3:
Apply Fingertip Gold, Burnished Gold, and Copper as desired for a metallic effect.
- STEP 4:
Spray with Matte Spray Sealer.

- STEP 1:
Basecoat entire piece with Roughtcut Bronze.

POLICEMAN WITH CHILD - DH2407

Fingertip Copper, SP08 Matte Spray
- STEP 1:
Basecoat entire piece with Roughtcut Bronze.
- STEP 2:
Antique entire piece with Black Translucent. Work on a small area at a time so translucent does not dry out before you wipe the excess away. Let dry.
- STEP 3:
Apply Fingertip Gold, Burnished Gold, and Copper as desired for a metallic effect.
- STEP 4:
Spray with Matte Spray Sealer.
DRIFTWOOD EAGLE HEAD - DH2402
MATERIALS AND COLORS NEEDED: Bisque, DHB6 1/2" shader, DHB3 round, DHB1 liner, DH08 Black, DH09 Real Brown, DH10 Mustard, DH12 Leather
Brown, DH16 Flaxon Yellow, DH18 Medium Brown, DH21 Sand, DH25 Toast, DH29 White, DH37 Cream, SP08 Matte Spray Sealer
- STEP 1:
Basecoat head feathers White. Basecoat beak and eyes Mustard. Basecoat remaining feathers and wood Black.
- STEP 2:
Lightly wetbrush beak with Flaxon Yellow; with color still in your brush add Cream to lighten and wetbrush highlights on beak. Shade crevices around beak with a Toast wash, followed by a Black wash
for definition around mouth, nostrils, etc. Highlight center area of eyes with Flaxon Yellow, tint outer edges of iris' with a Toast wash, followed by a Black wash. Detail eyes and paint pupils with Black.
Shade feathers around eyes with washes of Mustard, Toast and Black. Corner-load your brush with Black and outline lower White feathers.
- STEP 3:
Wetbrush remaining feathers and wood with Real Brown. Wetbrush feathers again lightly with Medium Brown. Shade and detail dark feathers with Black.
- STEP 4:
Wetbrush wood as desired, using Toast, Medium Brown, Sand and Leather Brown. Shade wood with a Black wash.
- STEP 5:
Spray piece with Matte Spray Sealer.
